Meet Sian - Our LGBT Development Worker
What I Do
My job role as a development worker is looking at what projects I can create that will coincide with our services priorities and key themes but also focusing on the outcomes of my funding. Some of my day to day activities involve; one to one support work, the planning and delivering of events, facilitating workshops and support groups and raising awareness around key issues, i.e. hate crime and mental health.
I have been a part of Hart Gables since 2010; I started off as a Service User and went on to Volunteer a year after before going to University. I started my current role in February 2016 and since then I have been taking part in projects which raise awareness on subjects such as Hate Crime, Domestic Abuse, Mental Well Being, Healthy Relationships and other LGBT* issues the community still face today. My favourite issue to work with is Mental health and wellbeing, in the future I am considering taking a course to become a professional Art Therapist. Art and Design has and always will be a huge part of my life so I try to incorporate it into my work whenever I can; examples of these include art based activities with the groups and designing my own promotional material for workshops and projects.
