TRANSGENDER Transgender is a general term used to describe individuals whose gender identity, ie. sense of themselves as male or female, differs from that usually associated with their birth sex. Transgender or ‘trans’ is the commonly accepted umbrella term for transsexual people, transvestites, cross-dressers and intersexed people. Transgender, Transsexual, Gender Dysphoria or even Gender Challenged are one and the same thing, females or males changing their gender and living life in the gender they know is right for them, via taking hormones and in some cases the surgeons scalpel. So why do we need a group in Hartlepool for people like this. WE HAVE A CHANCE TO HELP! The statistics we are told are 1 in 250-500 males have strong Transgender tendencies. What they are for females we are not sure but must be something similar.
As we know life is not easy at the best of times for any of us, just think how difficult it might be for a person that wishes to change their Gender. They have to come out to their family, friends, work mates and have to put up with public ignorance and abuse. As a group we have the chance to HELP! Give advise on seeing a GP, Gender Specialist, help with counselling and if needed help with make-up, hairstyles and dress sense but most of all we will be here with a LISTENING EAR and a SAFE and QUIET HAVEN. In setting up this group we hope to help young and mature people that are besieged by miss information and ridicule, we can also get people that already know what they want out of life, to join together to make changes in the LAW and hopefully the publics attitude and perception of what a TRANSGENDER person actually is.
